Can I let someone else share my medication if they are also a patient?
No, you cannot share your medical cannabis prescription with anyone else, even if they are also a patient. Prescriptions are individualised based on a doctor's assessment, and sharing medication is both illegal and potentially unsafe.
Each patient must have their own consultation and prescription to ensure they receive the correct dosage and formulation for their condition. If someone needs medical cannabis, they should speak to a specialist doctor to get their own prescription.
Is medical cannabis addictive?
Medical cannabis has a low risk of addiction, especially when used as prescribed by a doctor. However, like any medication, some individuals may develop a dependence, particularly with high-THC products.
How long does cannabis stay in your system?
The time cannabis stays in your system depends on factors like dosage, frequency of use, metabolism, and the type of test used.
General Detection Times:
- Blood Test – Up to 24 hours (longer for frequent users)
- Saliva Test – 1 to 3 days for occasional use; longer for regular users
- Urine Test – Up to 3 days for occasional users, but up to 30+ days for frequent users
- Hair Test – Can detect cannabis use for up to 90 days
THC, the active compound in cannabis, is stored in fat cells and released slowly over time. Regular users may test positive for longer than occasional users. If you're concerned about drug testing, speak with your doctor for guidance.
What is a good vaporiser for medical cannabis?
The Can Clinic team can recommend suitable medical-grade vaporizers based on your prescription and needs. It's important to use a high-quality, approved device to ensure safe and effective dosing.
If you're unsure which vaporizer to use, speak to your specialist doctor, who can guide you on the best options available.
Can you overdose on cannabis?
No, it is extremely unlikely to experience an overdose from cannabis. However, consuming too much- especially if you are new to medical cannabis or using a high-THC product- can lead to unpleasant effects.
Why is safe cannabis consumption important?
Safe cannabis consumption is crucial because it minimizes health risks while maximizing the benefits of the plant. By choosing methods like vaporizing instead of smoking, you're avoiding harmful chemicals that can damage your lungs and overall health.
This is particularly important for those using cannabis as a treatment for chronic conditions. Safe consumption ensures you're getting the therapeutic effects without the added health concerns. It's about being mindful of how you use cannabis to treat your body with the respect it deserves.
How does vaporizing medical cannabis work?
Vaporizing medical cannabis involves heating the cannabis flower to a temperature that releases the active compounds (like THC and CBD) as a vapor. This process occurs at a lower temperature than smoking, which means that the harmful byproducts associated with combustion are not produced.
When you inhale this vapor, you get the benefits of the cannabinoids and terpenes without the smoke. This makes it a safer and healthier option for patients looking to manage their symptoms with cannabis. The experience can be quite personalized, as different vaporizers allow you to adjust the temperature settings to suit your preferences.
Can I drink alcohol while using medical cannabis?
Yes, but caution is advised. Alcohol and medical cannabis can interact, potentially enhancing each other's effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination. This can increase the risk of accidents or other side effects.
At Can Clinic, we recommend discussing alcohol consumption with your healthcare provider to ensure safe use based on your individual treatment plan. If you choose to drink, start with small amounts to understand how the combination affects you.
Can I take medical cannabis with other medications?
Yes, medical cannabis can be taken alongside other medications and may even complement certain treatments. However, as with any medication, interactions can occur, so it's important to consult with your healthcare professional.
At Can Clinic, our experts carefully assess your medical history and current prescriptions to ensure safe and effective use of medical cannabis as part of your treatment plan.
Will medical cannabis make me feel 'high'?
THC-containing products may cause euphoria or a high, depending on the dose. However, CBD-only products do not have psychoactive effects and will not make you feel high.
Is medical cannabis safe for long-term use?
Yes, medical cannabis can be safe for long-term use when prescribed and monitored by healthcare professionals. Many patients benefit from sustained use without significant side effects.
However, as with any long-term treatment, individual responses may vary, and some patients may experience changes such as tolerance or mild dependency.
At Can Clinic, our experts prioritise patient safety, providing ongoing support and monitoring to ensure the most effective and well-tolerated treatment. If you have any concerns, our team is here to help tailor your treatment plan to your needs.
What are terpenes, and how do they affect medical cannabis?
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis that not only give it its unique smell but also influence its effects. They work alongside cannabinoids like THC and CBD to enhance therapeutic benefits.
Here are some key terpenes and their effects:
- Limonene: Uplifting, may help reduce anxiety and improve mood
- Myrcene: Relaxing, known for sedative and pain-relieving properties
- Pinene: Promotes focus and alertness while offering anti-inflammatory benefits
These compounds contribute to the entourage effect, where cannabinoids and terpenes work together to enhance the overall benefits of medical cannabis.
